ISO 22301 Lead Auditor

Overview

ISO 22301 Lead Auditor credential recognizes individuals that have in-depth understanding of the ISO 22301 requirements. Certified ISO 22301 Lead Auditor individuals are able to apply the concepts, processes, methods and techniques for auditing of BCMS in the workplace.

To obtain any of the three credentials, candidates must not only pass the exam with a minimum score of 60% but also meet the following listed requirements:

Be familiar with the basic terminology, concepts and principles related to business continuity and a business continuity management system (BCMS), and understand the purpose and benefits of protecting business assets.

Be familiar with the core requirements to establish, implement, maintain and continually improve a business continuity management system (BCMS).

Auditing Fundamentals

Be familiar with the basic terminology, principles and distinctive roles related to management system (MS) auditing, and understand the processes required to establish and manage an audit programme.

Audit Initiation and Preparation

Conduct a feasibility study of audit and a pre-documentation review to determine the context of the auditee, and prepare the audit activities and related resources.

Audit Execution

Conduct the audit activities according to the audit plan, and evaluate the degree of fulfillment with a management system to determine the audit results.

Audit Reporting, Completion and Follow-Up

Complete audit activities by preparing and distributing an audit report, and schedule a follow-up audit to verify the completeness and effectiveness of proposed actions.

Recertification

The ISO 22301 Lead Auditor certification program has a three-year recertification cycle. To retain certification beyond this period, candidates are required to fulfill specific requirements, including the payment of either an annual maintenance fee (AMF) or a triennial maintenance fee (TMF).

Moreover, a total of 90 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits are required to be accrued over the three year recertification cycle, with 30 CPE credits recommended for each year. The CPE credits earned are required to be related to the subject matter area of the certificate you hold. For ISO 22301 Lead Auditor, the CPE credits are required to be activities related to the following subject matter areas:

  1. Auditing
  2. Business Continuity
  3. Management Systems

These obligations ensure that certified professionals remain up-to-date and proficient in relevant areas, thereby maintaining the program's high standards of expertise and knowledge retention.
